The typical Italian goes to Hungary and complains that lasagne doesn’t taste like his mamma’s ones, goes to Japan and complains about coffee because it’s not espresso, goes to France and pasta is not enough al dente.
He doesn’t even conceive the idea of enjoying an original goulash, or give up coffee for a while for a more appropriate tea, or accontentarsi.
Curiously enough the motto “When you are in Rome do what the Romans do” doesn’t apply to the Italians, especially when it comes to food.
So don’t be surprise if they will not appreciate the most popular American snacks.
They will show mixed feelings about it.
Peanut butter and jelly?
If you really want to initiate them to the peanut butter tradition, be smart, try with cookies.
Savory snacks: forget about pizza, you will never convert them to the american version of the most popular Italian food ever!
try with breadsticks… but don’t expect great enthusiasm.
Same thing for marshmallows…
…your Italian friends will be puzzled about it…
If you want to educate them, you might try with the camping version, they saw this many times in American movies and they will be curious to taste them
but if you really want to conquer their hearts, make s’mores
nobody could resist this!
