What’s more Italian than a Vespa?
The name vespa ‘wasp’ was probably chosen because the scooter noise reminds a wasp’s buzzing
Designed by engineers Renzo Spolti and Vittorio Casini for Piaggio, in Pontedera (Pisa, Tuscany), in 1944
The prototype was called Paperino (‘Donald Duck’)
From then on… just vespa!
